Compare truck insurance

Find providers for your commercial truck, transport fleet or truck-mounted plant. Answer a few questions about your vehicles and work.

Why the work matters

A truck carrying parcels and a truck operating a crane may need different cover. The vehicle description alone does not tell the insurer what happens on a working day.

This comparison is for commercial vehicles in Australia. It brings together transport specialists, commercial motor insurers and a plant specialist. For a private or vintage hobby truck, ask about enthusiast vehicle cover separately.

We compare a selected panel, not the whole market. NTI and Truck Assist share CGU and Vero underwriting capacity. UAA uses QBE capacity for its plant product. Different brands do not always mean different insurers.

What to have ready for a quote

  • Vehicle and trailer details, including attachments and values
  • Driver ages, licences and relevant experience
  • Cargo, operating area and any mining, dangerous goods or hire work
  • Claims history and any contracts that set insurance requirements
  • The cover you need for the truck, goods, liability and downtime

How Specialist Compare works

1

Tell us about the work

Five questions about the vehicle, fleet size, main work, special activities and how you want to arrange cover. Mining work has one follow-up.

2

Review the providers

See providers ordered by the details we can verify, with a reason for each result. Acceptance is for the provider to confirm.

3

Choose who to contact

Visit a provider or speak with a broker. We do not collect contact details in the quiz or send your answers to providers.

What affects a truck insurance quote?

We do not compare premiums. Give each provider the same details so you can compare their quotes fairly.

Vehicles and values

Include trailers, attached equipment and the basis on which each item is valued.

Drivers and work

Experience, cargo and operating area help the provider assess the risk.

Cover and excesses

Compare what is included and what you would pay towards a claim.

Check each part of the cover

Commercial motor

Damage to the insured vehicle and liability for damage it causes to other property, depending on the cover selected.

Goods and carriers cover

A separate question from damage to the truck. Check whose goods are covered and on what basis.

Business liability

Check liability from the work itself, including activities away from the road.

Downtime

Some products offer payments after an insured vehicle claim. Check the trigger, waiting period and payment limit.

Benefits depend on the product, the sections selected and the policy schedule. Read the PDS or wording, including exclusions.

Truck insurance FAQs

Do you compare truck insurance prices?

No. We show providers to consider from a selected panel. Quotes and acceptance come from the provider or broker.

Are these six separate insurers?

No. Truck Assist is an NTI brand, with the same CGU and Vero underwriting capacity as NTI. UAA uses QBE for its specialist plant insurance. GT Insurance acts for Allianz. The routes and products differ even where the insurer is shared.

Is the freight covered with the truck?

Do not assume it is. Ask about cover for goods in transit or carriers liability, including loading, unloading and any temperature-sensitive goods.

Can a young driver get cover?

Possibly. Age, licence history, experience and the freight task can affect the terms. Some drivers need written approval. Our quiz does not decide whether a driver is accepted.

Does this cover private or vintage trucks?

This comparison is for commercial use. For a truck used only for displays, club runs or a private collection, ask an enthusiast vehicle insurer or broker about that use.

Does a result mean my work is covered?

No. A result means we have not recorded a conflicting hard rule for your answers. Mining work, dangerous goods and dry hire need specific confirmation. Read the policy wording and schedule before buying.
