How we compare

Our questions help narrow the provider panel using information such as what you are insuring, how you use it and where you are based. You can also browse the selected panel without answering the questions.

How your results are matched

We look at the information you've given us, such as what you're insuring, how you use it and where you're based.

If we know a provider doesn't cover something you've selected, we won't show them.

For some important questions, we may also only show providers where we have information confirming they cover what you've selected.

If we don't have enough information about a provider for an important part of your search, we may leave them out of your results.

If you choose Not sure, we generally won't use that answer to narrow your results.

How your results are ordered

Providers that more closely match the information you've given us appear first.

For example, a provider we know covers your particular type of boat, farm or construction work may appear above one where we hold less information.

This isn't a recommendation or a ranking of which provider is best, cheapest or most suitable for you.

Where providers match your answers in a similar way, we use our standard ordering to decide which appears first.

Does payment affect the results?

Specialist Compare does not currently have paid provider arrangements. Payments do not determine whether a provider is shown or where it appears.

How we make money

What to know

We compare a selected panel, not every provider in the market.

What providers cover and who they can insure can change. Appearing in your results doesn't guarantee that a provider will offer you cover.

The results are a research starting point. They are not a recommendation and are not personal financial advice.

How we research and review provider information

We build our provider information from public sources, including Product Disclosure Statements, policy wordings and information published on provider websites.

We record only what those sources support. If an important point is unclear, we do not treat it as confirmed.

We review our core provider information each quarter.

Products, eligibility and policy terms can change between reviews. Check the latest documents and details with the provider before arranging cover.

Spotted something that may be out of date? Send us a correction and include the page link and, if possible, the source. We will check it.
